“Christian” Pugilism

Pugilism is not Christian, of course, nor will we lay this to the Y. M. C. A. in general; but the fact that a pugilistic bout could be “pulled off” in Yale Mission Hall, at which the Y. M. C. A. workers were present and “cheered loudly,” shows the extent to which the “strenuous” animal life of the present has entered into religious circles, which a short time since would have denounced it. Our authority for the above is the New Haven (Conn.) Union, of March 28. The next night prayer meeting was to be held in the same place. How long will it be before men go through the form of prayer at the ring side? What a travesty is such Christianity! Yet it is no worse than many other things.
