California Gas Safety Law

One of the new laws of California is an act to regulate the use of gas. The enactment of this measure was called out by the many deaths caused by asphyxiation. It would seem that the law comes into action none too soon, for in San Francisco alone, during the month of March, there were nine deaths from this cause. The new law provides for the use of a practical and safe automatic gas igniter in hotels and lodging houses. It is made a misdemeanor to turn off the flow of gas at the meter during the occupancy of a room unless such igniter is attached to each orifice.
