Progress of Wireless Telegraphy.
Press despatches announce that Marconi is now ready to establish direct wireless communication between Italy and Argentina, countries 6,000 miles apart. He said to-day that this would be his next undertaking. He is going to Italy and to Argentina to select sites for two stations. The 6,000-mile-wireless system is to be backed by the Italian Government, and there is no question in the minds of Marconi and his friends and business associates here but that direct communication between Italy and Argentina will be as successful as it is now between Cape Cod and Cornwall. The distance over which a wireless message may be sent depends only on the amount of power, and the power used to send that message from President Roosevelt to King Edward the other day was not more than half the power required to operate an ordinary electric automobile.
