The World's Unsatisfying Fortune

A reputed billionaire, having enjoyed only forty-seven years of existence, is said to be dying of apoplexy. Such is the record the associated press gives of Alfred Beit, who was a partner of the late Cecil Rhodes, of South African fame. He, too, amassed a fortune difficult to estimate, and died at about the same age. Such is life, or, rather, what is called life by those who seek only the fortunes and honors that this world affords. They seem to be never satisfied, and yet no wise man could be satisfied could he even attain the goal they seek. The psalmist says, “As for me, I will behold Thy face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Thy likeness.”
