CREATED FOR HIS PLEASURE.

BY THORO HARRIS.
Eternal God! Father of light! Ancient of endless years! How awful, to our wond'ring sight Thy majesty appears!
Thou fill'st Thy vast creation broad With Thy immensity; Thou who alone wert perfect God Could'st not more perfect be.
Yet Thou wert not content, O Love, To live and move alone; Thou madest earth and heav'n above For love's dear sake alone.
'Twas for Thy pleasure they were made— 'Twas by Thy sovereign will; Thy hung'ring heart was yearning, glad Love's purpose to fulfil.
That Thou might'st love and be loved, Thou, O Love, sought not Thine own; Since love alone is lonely, how Could'st Thou rejoice alone?
And so Thou madest heaven and earth For love's supreme delight; We bless the Power that gave us birth, The everlasting Might!
Then may we, Lord, with rev'rent joy Thy gifts of love receive, And still our thankful songs employ And benedictions give.
Thy gifts our grateful homage claim, Our hearts to Thee we bring; We magnify the glorious name Of heaven's eternal King.
