The Open Shop Movement

The open shop movement seems to be gaining some headway in Chicago and San Francisco. In the former place a number of strikes of ordinary proportions have failed recently, and 9,000 men have returned to work in the factories of two large concerns which have just adopted the “open shop” principle. In San Francisco the principal butcher shops have taken out their union cards and established “open shop.” The movement is looked upon by the unions in a rather serious light, especially since the injunction against boycotting a livery stable has been made permanent.
