Russia’s Railroad Plans in Persia

RUSSIA will begin early in the new year the construction of a railroad into Persia. The British regard this as imperiling their interests in that country, and as an indication of Russia’s design on Britain’s political as well as commercial position in Persia. Heretofore it had been thought that Russia would restrict her operations to northern Persia; but her establishment of a consular agency at Ahwaz shows that she will not allow herself to be thus limited.
