German and French Budget Deficits

THE finances of the German Government show a deficit of $37,500,000 in the imperial budget for 1903, while the deficit for the previous year was $14,750,000. The government will probably levy a tax on beer and tobacco to make up the deficit. The deficit in the French budget has caused the government to reduce its proposed warship construction for the future until the necessary funds are made up.
