Continually we are hearing of the constantly decreasing subscription lists of religious newspapers. Nearly all the old-timers that are making a success are now merely secular journals, having little to say on religious subjects. Such are the Independent and Outlook. We met an aged colporteur a few days ago, a former Presbyterian minister, who was doing colporteur work. He was carrying Moody’s sermons, Sheldon’s novels, and a few tracts and pamphlets, but said that he found almost no one who cared to buy or read religious literature. He found it greatly different from what it was eighteen years ago. He said that he must sell a book that day, or go without his dinner. This is one item of many which show the decadence of faith. “When the Son of Man cometh, shall He find faith in the earth?” We are in those days. If men neglect the Bread of Life, they will pine and die; and the churches of to-day are filled with the dying and the dead. It is time for every true child of God to awake.
