EARTH AND HEAVEN.

Who hath not gazed upon the sky At even, when with stars bedecked The shining vault so wondrous bright Seemed heaven’s own beauty to reflect? And while our gaze is fixed above, Such beauty, such entrancing light, Awakens in our hearts sweet dreams Of heaven above where all is bright.
And when below our eyes are cast, How dark and gloomy all around; Earth’s beauties seem to pass away; Far grander sights the eye hath found. For those who know the Christian’s joy, For all who love the Saviour’s voice, Earth’s pleasures vain soon lose their charms; The heavenly path is made their choice.
While heavenward the face is set, The heart’s petitions upward rise, Forgetting all that’s left behind, With patience wait to gain the prize; And seeing not the gloom of earth, Our hearts rejoicing in His love, His glory leads us safely on To mansions beautiful above.
