Digging the Top Off

“Digging the Top Off” is a book of 174 pages in which are found seven complete, true stories. The first one tells of Joe, about whom his employer says: “Tell the boy there are many things in this world from which the top has to be dug off as a first step, and he is one of them.” How he accomplished this, with the help of his mother, is an interesting story, but no more so than the other six, the titles of which are as follows: The Business of Life, Hoops and Handles, Zena’s Price, Clinton Mathews, and the Burro.
