CONFIDE IN COMING DAY.

Tho night with mantle dark and wide o'erspread Thy path, dear wand'ring comrade of my own, Think not that brilliant day fore'er has flown, Nor halting cling to frail support in dread; The very hand of Death low o'er thy head Devises gravest woes, to the unknown, Implants them in man's way, and mortals lone In careless seeking joy finds grief instead.
But He, e'er present is, and knowing all Would aid the trusting one, prevent his fall, And grant the light that never shall expire; Thus halt not though that darkness grim and wide Invest thy way, at trials own no ire, But in the truth of coming day confide.
