MORE MUNICIPAL CORRUPTION.
“Against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Eph. 6:12. Now MINNEAPOLIS must endure the scandal of having the lid temporarily removed from her kettle of municipal rottenness. The mayor and chief of police appear to be the leaders in the corruption. The mayor was elected on a “wide-open-town” platform, and when the governor of the State removed the county sheriff for cause, the mayor sought to control the appointment of a successor by attempted bribery of the county commissioners who have the appointing power. The chief of police is brother to the mayor, and is to be tried for accepting “graft” money. Some of the relations are worthy of Tammany in its palmiest days. With the startling revelations of municipal corruption in New York, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Minneapolis, and other cities, American city government is an institution of which we can scarcely be proud.—Homiletic Review.
