Chinese Ship-Carpenters Strike

THE recent strike of 5,000 Chinese ship-carpenters at the Hong Kong shipyards is thought by many to indicate the beginning of an industrial awakening in China. These skilled ship-carpenters were receiving from 40 to 50 cents a day for their labor. They are striking for an increase to 65 cents per day. The strike is under the direction of the Carpenters' Guild of Hong Kong, which is said to be master of the situation.
