Power of Superstition.

The New York World has a despatch dated “Washington, September 13,” which says: “The passing of to-day without the return of Postmaster-General Payne relieved the anxiety of several thousand government officials and employees who have been apprehensive that the new United States postage stamp bearing the denomination of 13 cents would make its appearance on the 13th of this month. There were comparatively few who cared to wave their defiant hands, in the face of this double superstition.” Men are afraid to fly in the face of a senseless, baseless superstition; but the same ones will walk in persistent rebellion against God and the very law of their life. Superstition is not dead.
