Champerico Deserted Amid Earthquake Fears

The German steamer Kambyses, which arrived at San Diego, Cal., on August 24, reports that all the inhabitants of the Guatemalan city of Champerico have deserted the place on account of earthquakes and threatened volcanic disturbances. The lights of active volcanoes could be plainly seen by the passengers of the Kambyses many miles at sea along the Guatemalan coast.
