Naaman’s Healing in the Jordan

JORDAN was to Naaman the Syrian a river of healing and cleansing. Said the prophet to the noble leper, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.” In rage Naaman scoffed at the message. How could the dirty Jordan compare with the clear, sweet rivers of his own land, “Abanah and Pharpar.” But his servants sweetly called him back from his wrath to the insignificant river and God’s power; and he “dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.” 2 Kings 5. So God’s means, however unworthy they may seem in man’s eyes, are always effectual if used in faith “according to the saying.”
