Siamese Abduct the Ruler of Patani

The ruler of the Malay State of Patani has been captured and abducted by the Siamese. He had appealed to the British for protection from the abuses of the Siamese governor, and his abduction is his punishment for so doing. England, it is said, will demand his release, and appoint a mediator between Siam and Patani, which is quite likely to result in Patani and the other Siamese Malay States coming under the control of Britain. In this case France would take over the Cambodian States as an equivalent, thus reducing the area of Siam by over one-half.
