BLOSSOM FOR GOD.

On the lone hill, neath the pine-tree’s shade, On the plain where the wild deer roam, In the quiet depths of the forest glade, Where the wood-bird finds a home, Without our thought, without our care, Wild flowers are blossoming everywhere.
What do they do in their beauty here, Where foot of men ne’er trod, No human eye or heart to cheer?— They are blossoming for God. He hath fashioned each with artist-care: Think you not that He loves those flow’rets fair?
The valley-lily’s silver bells, The wild rose fresh with dew, The violet hid in mossy dells, The gentian’s azure hue, From the sunny morn to the twilight dim, Yield up their tribute of praise to Him.
O child of earth, is thy pathway lone? Like the flower on the mountain height, To the busy, bustling world unknown, Unfold for the Master’s sight. Blossom for God—be the lesson ours, So sweetly taught by wildwood flowers.
Cherish with care each noble thought, High aim, and gentle grace; A life with beauty and sweetness fraught May gladden thy lowly place. Thou hast shared with the flowers His sun and dew: Yield up thy tribute of fragrance too.
