The Cost of Self-Approval

EVERY hour of self-approval is an hour wasted, and worse than that, it is usually an hour which will prevent progress for a long time to come. “Self-approval” in moral growth corresponds with “sitting down” in a foot race. It is pleasant to sit down in a foot race, especially toward the end of the race, but it is a bad thing for your chance of winning. Self-approval is a pleasant thing in the race of life, but it is a very bad thing for the race itself.—San Francisco Examiner.
