WILL WE ENDURE?

A TINY child, having been assured, when sick, that the medicine given her would make her well, begged piteously for more when suffering severely, and greedily swallowed the bitter potion.
Most of us as adults are less brave in spiritual matters than was this child in physical. Sometimes, in zealous mood, we pray for such perfection of character as only trial can produce; but when trials come, we are prone to cry out in protest.
Dentists usually employ a slow, tedious process in destroying the exposed nerve of a tooth, altho the work could be done effectually in a moment’s time, but few persons will consent to the moment’s excruciating ordeal.
Likewise the great Physician can not employ for us the quickest and most effectual remedies for our faults, but must needs let us linger through a long period of spiritual invalidism. We do not say, If it be Thy will, let this cup pass; but we insist, Take it away!
When shall we cease to fluctuate between declines and recovery, and the weak “be as David,” and the strong “as the angel of the Lord”?
MRS. ADA D. WELLMAN.
