INCONSISTENT PROFESSION.
By Louise Perry
You say you are following Jesus your Saviour,
And yet you are hoarding your silver and gold,
While widows and orphans are starving and dying,
Are dying alone in their hunger and cold. You say you are serving your Lord and Redeemer,
While robbing the laborer of hardly earned pelf;
You take from his wages, so scanty and meager,
Thus greedily gathering more for yourself. You say you are longing for Christ’s coming kingdom,
While you cast in your vote for the license of rum,
And around you are falling your weak, tempted brothers,
Who by its cursed power are forever o’ercome. O soul, rouse thee quickly, repent of thy doings;
God’s terrible judgments are swift drawing near.
If you stand in His presence so sin-stained and guilty,
“Depart from Me, cursed,” His voice thou shalt hear.
