A Poem on Niagara

The little poem on Niagara on our first page, by J. C. G. Brainard is said to be the finest ever written on that great natural wonder. It was composed in a printing office by Mr. Brainard when a young man (he died at the age of thirty, 1828) while the compositor was waiting for copy. It is averred that he had not at this time seen Niagara. This is doubtful. If he had not with physical sight, he had in his imagination; and he expresses beautifully the measureless difference between the works of nature and their Author.
