LIVE NOT TO THYSELF.

LIVE not to thyself; precious self ever dear, Check not the kind impulse, nor sympathy's tear O'er the ills of thy fellows; for many there are With sorrows o'erburdened, and little ye know How much ye can brighten the dark cloud of woe.
Think not of thyself; from thyself look away, From folly and sin lead the wayward, nor stay From the home of the desolate, lone one, away, Remember our mission, while walking below, Is to sweeten the draught in life's cup as we go.
Speak not of thyself; tho thy deeds manifold For chivalry rival the famed knights of old; Let the lips of another thy merit unfold, Our effort to win admiration offends; 'Tis the giving of self that will bring thee thy friends.
Make the most of thyself; of all thy powers, Waste not the bright moments of Time's fleeting hours; Would'st have thy path strewn with perennial flowers, Keep unsullied thy life, and unselfish thy heart, Make life a praise song, with no discordant part.
Debase not thyself in deed, word, or thought, In God's image made, with great price wast thou bought; With interests vast as eternity fraught— To glorify Him is our duty to-day, To rest in His love, and enjoy Him for aye.
