MAKE SUFFERANCE ART.

I oft reflect o’er my mistakeful days When time was dear and joyous health was true, When I cared not what burdened age might woo, But lent myself to fleeting Pleasure’s rays. Alas! I muse some hundred various ways, And sorrow o’er what Penance finds to do— Now little light from shrouded skies breaks through To brighten life whenever hope decays.
'Tis little need of spurning agony, Which seems to gather from the clouds above, And swift bestow its darkest honor free. Mine eyes are dimly blinded; yet there's Love Beyond the clouds, which calms this trembling heart. 'Tis better, then, to suffer willingly The test He brings, and make thy suff'rance art.
