Winning Love Through Unselfishness

We never win love by demanding it, or mourning because we do not possess it. The only way to win love is by being lovely, not outwardly, but inwardly, unselfishly lovely. Outward acts may win admiration,—always more or less evanescent; but it takes the real character of unselfish loveliness to win love and hold it. Sometimes the love of a wife is a love of being loved. Her affections are bestowed as an investment is made—to get more. This is as frequently true of the husband—the love has a selfish basis, and that is not genuine love. This is a subject worth thinking of by both husband and wife, by father and mother.
