Cigaret Smokers.

J. C. Ayer and Co., the well-known patent medicine firm, have adopted this rule: “Believing that the smoking of cigarets is injurious to both mind and body, thereby unfitting man for his best work; therefore after this date [March 1, 1902], we will not employ any young man under twenty-one years of age who smokes cigarets.” This is good as far as it goes; but it has two limitations, which raise these queries: (1) Why stop at twenty-one? and (2) Why cigarets alone? Is not tobacco an evil in every form, especially to the young? Yet this action by this firm ought to set the young men to thinking. O, it is so much better to be a free man!
