Labor and Prices

Labor and Prices.—According to Dunn's Review, a commercial paper which makes a study of prices, it costs the average common man over 28 per cent. more to live now than it did four years ago. That is especially true in the western part of the country, which has fallen directly under our observation. Prices on all commodities of life, with scarcely an exception, have greatly increased the last two years in Oakland. Rents are decidedly higher, and houses exceedingly scarce. Labor is more generally employed, but not a few find harder times.
