Steel Corporation’s Profits

The big steel combine, named the United States Steel Corporation, made a profit of $85,779,298 during the first nine months of its existence. It sells steel rails in England for $22.50 per ton, and pays five dollars a ton freight. It sells to American producers at $28.00 a ton. Presumably it makes a good profit on its English sales at $17.00 a ton after deducting ocean carriage. It makes $11.00 more than this foreign profit a ton on what it sells in America. No wonder its profits are so immense.
