REMEMBER THE BURDEN.

The burden that comes with our birth, Burdens of sin and pain, ’Neath which the human soul, unhelped, Doth strive in vain; The burden so many a child Unmarked doth bear alone; With impulse blind, and will at strife, In its new-found life.
The struggle we can not see, Nor the working understand, Of the waking mind in a stranger-world, This shadow-land.
O, tender then, be our mien Toward the little wayfaring one. Be ours to aid in the stress and strife Of its new-found life.
Be ours to lighten the load For the children’s shoulders weak; Let heart of love, and voice of cheer, Of courage speak. So oft ’neath careless mien Its fear would the heart conceal; The love whereby the soul doth live, Fail not to give.
