“NOT FOR REWARD.”

Not for reward! not for reward! No dream of ease-crowned life, No need of selfish gain,—not these, Not these the soul can move To victor-strife.
’Tis love, Thy love alone, O Thou of Calvary, Who in Gethsemane made moan, Who lived and died, yea, lives, For such as we.
So much, so much bestowed! So rich the gifts of Heaven! Be mine but to return, O Lord, Thine own, Thy name to adore For mercies given.
Be mine to love, to share With Thee the travail-pain; Thy watch to keep, that souls that weep Through woe’s deep night may wake To joy again.
Be mine Thy joy to know Of victory-crowned strife; Of vanquished sin; the day brought in Of peace, through anguish won, To endless life.
MARIAN DAVIS.
