I CAN LOOK AHEAD.

I CAN look ahead to the heavenly hills, And think of that time to come, When I'll leave the life below, with its ills, And live at home.
I list for a note of that sea of song Up-rolled from the trillions there, And my soul, borne on through the years so long, Flings off earth's care.
Earth's care that enwraps me as prone I lie ’Neath a rod of restless pain; But I see hope's star in the bending sky, And pray again.
O, the night is dark when the gloom rolls down, And pain rules the whole world ’round, And the fettered hours clank by with a moan; Still I'm home bound.
To those hills of God and that glory song, I'm holding my hungry gaze; In that home, through the ages bright and long, I'll spend my days.
