Miss Stone’s Captivity and Ransom

Miss Helen Stone, the missionary who was recently captured by brigands in Turkey and taken into Bulgarian territory, is still held by her captors. Strenuous efforts are being made in this country to raise the $110,000 demanded for her ransom. Thirty days more have been given by the brigands in which the friends of Miss Stone may purchase her release. The matter has also been taken up by the State Department, but so far nothing definite has been accomplished. It is thought that the brigands are members of the Bulgarian Revolutionary Committee, and that this is a scheme of the committee to raise funds for its cause.
