Drift Casks on the Ice Floes

CAPTAIN TUTTLE of the revenue cutter Bear has placed fifteen drift casks on the ice floes far to the northwest of Point Barrow for the purpose of ascertaining the direction of the drift of the ice floes. The undertaking was regarded as an extremely hazardous one, but was successfully executed.
