THOUGHTS IN PASSING.

The Delf and the Porcelain.

THANK God for a merciful, all-wise God; (Not minded as men, my brother;) But who gauges the strain of a soul's distress, And measures our strength or our feebleness; Yea, knoweth us one from another. And here is a proof of His perfect self, In that none of His works are in vain; For He knows that the shock that jars the delf May shatter the porcelain.
Thank God for a God who delights to love; (And so small a return demanding;) And who handles His vessels mercy-gloved, And loves forever the thing once loved, With a love past understanding. And His final work of the great sixth day Shall ever His care retain; For His image hallows our common clay— Both the delf and the porcelain.
