Catholic Officials Negotiate Church Jurisdiction

CARDINAL GIBBONS, Cardinal Rampolla, the papal Secretary of State, Mgr. Nozaleda, Archbishop of Manila, and other high officials of the Catholic Church, have been holding conferences at Rome over the matter of the property of the Catholic orders in Cuba, Porto Rico, and the Philippines. The report states that they have effected a settlement of this question, and are now negotiating for the extension to Cuba and the Philippines of the jurisdiction of the apostolic delegation at Washington. The report is published with all the assurance that the settlement arrived at by these church officials will be the settlement approved and established by the United States. Rome’s policy in planting an apostolic delegation at Washington was a far-sighted one, and her ecclesiastical diplomats are using their opportunity to the utmost of their ability.
