Chicago Religious Procession Riot

WHILE a religious procession of Italians was marching thru the streets of Chicago, on July 9, a motorman attempted to run his car across the line of march. The Italians smashed the car windows, and were only prevented from killing the motorman and conductor by the timely arrival of the police, who had much difficulty in quelling the riot. Sticks and stones were hurled at the car until there was not a whole window left in it. This is a true indication of what that kind of religion will do which consists in forms and ceremonies without the power of God or the meekness of Christ.
