The Growth of City Populations

From the late census report we see that the incorporated cities in the United States contain an aggregate of 35,849,516 inhabitants, as compared with a little over 26,000,000 ten years ago. The inhabitants of incorporated cities comprise 47 per cent. of the entire population of the United States. In the State of New York 77 per cent. of the population live in the towns and cities. In six other States two-thirds of the people live in the incorporated places. The proportion of the people so living is continually on the increase, and the proportion living in the country is decreasing in the same ratio.
