The Sabbath Is Holy Regardless of Men’s Belief

The character of God is not affected by the regard that men have for Him. They may praise or revile Him, obey or disobey Him, He is forever the same. This is as true of the institutions He has constituted and ordained as it is of Him. For instance, He has hallowed the Sabbath day, and the day is therefore holy. How men regard the day does not affect it. A coin with the regular stamp of the government which issues it is genuine whether men believe it or not. Man’s belief does not in any way affect its value or character. On the other hand, men’s belief in the genuineness of a counterfeit coin does not affect its character. It is counterfeit, and will ever remain so. So men may believe in the sanctity of the institutions which Satan has palmed off as genuine, but they are spurious still; and men may call the Sabbath “Jewish,” but it is still the Sabbath, “holy unto the Lord.” Its character is from God, not men. The Lord does not command man to make it holy, which he can not do, but “to keep it holy.”
