The Danger of Half-Truths

Half-truths are often the worst of errors, the most debasing and soul-destroying. An instance of this is seen in the "applied Christianity" of a certain well-known professor. His perverted, law-made "Christian" Socialism has led to the break-up of his family and his recent divorce. Of his relations with another woman, Dr. Josiah Strong says, "Their conduct has been despicable beyond the resources of my vocabulary to express; and if all the facts in the case were known, these people would not be tolerated in any self-respecting society for an hour." But this has resulted largely from the holding and living of what are called "half-truths." They are really the worst of lies. Out of them has grown every false religion the world has ever seen.
