Railway Control Changes Hands

An almost amusing feature in the present consolidation of railways is the fact that roads have changed hands without the knowledge of the officials having charge. This was true in the case of the C. B. and Q. railway. In one instance, the Springfield Republican tells us, the president of a large railway company was waited upon in his office by a young capitalist who bluntly informed him that he (the young man) now controlled the road. This was the first the president had heard of it, and he promptly tendered his resignation, which was not accepted, tho that of several of the directors was. It is extremely difficult to tell what men control or own some of these great trust companies nowadays.
