Presbyterians Protest Sunday Exposition Opening

The Presbyterian General Assembly is now (May 20) in session at Philadelphia. During its session on the date mentioned, a resolution was adopted deprecating the action of the directors of the Pan-American Exposition at Buffalo in opening its gates on Sunday, and earnestly urging the closing of the Exposition on that day. The committee on “Sabbath Observance” brought in a report, which was adopted, protesting against “seven-day journalism,” commending Congress for making its appropriation to the St. Louis Exposition conditional upon the closing of its gates on Sunday, and deprecating the use of that day for the promotion of business and commercial interests.
