A child three years old, in New York City, is a regular cigarette fiend. His parents have tried to break him of it, but the passion is so strong with him that he will collect cigarette stubs from the street and smoke them at every opportunity. Not long since he shut himself in the bedroom to take a smoke, and soon set the bed on fire. When he was rescued from the flames, he had twenty cigarette stubs in his pockets ready for smoking. The tobacco habit is taking a stronger and stronger hold upon humanity, and because of the fact that it is not only very injurious in itself, but also is one of the greatest causes of the drink habit, the outlook is not very auspicious. Parents should do everything in their power to keep their children from using tobacco. And if they will set them the proper example in this respect, and keep them in good company where tobacco-using is frowned upon, there is but very little danger of their taking up the use of this vile weed.
