Russia Restricts Liquor in Army

An investigation was recently ordered by the Russian Government in the matter of liquor drinking in the army. As a result of this investigation, brandy has been stricken from the soldiers' rations both in time of peace and time of war; no brandy is to be carried into the barracks; liquor-selling in the canteens is prohibited; officers are forbidden to distribute liquor among the soldiers, when such distribution is at the expense of others, a custom which has been prevalent in the Russian army; and provision is made for instructing the soldiers in regard to the harmfulness of alcoholic drinks.
