THE STEADFAST HOPE.

When on the reef of death my bark lies stranded, And Time his last rude, fateful gale has blown, On peril’s rocks my weary feet have landed, And I am called to tread a path unknown.
Thou who hast trod the way untried before me, When mortal life is slipping fast away, Then in Thy love, blest Saviour, I implore Thee, Be Thou alone my dying trust and stay.
And if, perchance, my ill all good outweighing, Thou yet canst save me, thru Thy boundless grace, Still on Thy arm divine I shall be staying As I approach my final resting-place.
Some humble home, O Lord, Thou wilt prepare me, Where all the raving blasts of sorrow cease! To scenes of endless beauty Thou wilt bear me, Where ceaseless flows the river of Thy peace.
Deep in Thy wounds my shame and sorrow hiding, E’en now I sing heav’n’s new immortal song; And in Thy love forevermore abiding, I taste the sweets of bliss, for which I long.
