Christ and the Theory of Evolution
“DR. DAVID J. BURRELL in a recent sermon objected to the unproved doctrine of evolution. He then very forcibly showed the impossibility of this doctrine being true in the case of our Lord, thus: ‘How can you account for the presence of Christ? They tell us we have come to be what we are thru evolution. From a bed of slime in the river there was first a mollusk, then a reptile, then a bird, then a beast, and then a man. This may account for you, and it may account for me. We may be willing to admit that we have descended from an ape, but here is the crux of the thing for Christians: How are we to account for this Man coming down thru the ages with no wrinkle on His brow, no sin in his soul? Would you say it was a miracle? No, no, my friends. The moment you call in the supernatural, the theory of evolution falls to the ground. You may be willing to call yourself a descendant of an ape, but I bid you stop when you say this of Christ.’”
