Mission Work in the Madeira Islands

GREAT interest centers in the work in the Madeira Islands, a group off the northwest coast of Africa, which for four hundred years have been dominated by the Roman Catholic Church. The inhabitants are Portuguese white people, with a colony of perhaps 100 Europeans, mostly English, engaged in trade. The city of Funchal, the capital, contains 50,000 inhabitants, and the islands 120,000. The Methodists have rented a mission property in the city, and in the beautiful mountains fourteen miles away, an interesting and growing mission has been established.
