Vice and Christian Civilization

It is an almost uniform testimony that vice is more rampant in Chicago than it was two years ago, yet Mr. Harrison, under whose administration this state of things exists, was re-elected the other day by a majority of over 28,000 votes. What a commentary this is on our so-called Christian civilization! This candidate for mayor openly appealed to the vicious elements of the city to support him in his election, and he is elected. And so it is in New York and San Francisco and other cities. Vice is rampant, increasingly so, but a corresponding, manifest, growing indifference is evident among the people.
