Germany and Catholic Missionaries in China
A semiofficial organ of the Vatican, la Voce della Verità, charges Germany with the Chinese trouble. When the Catholic missionaries were directed by the Vatican, thru France, it declares there was little trouble; but since Germany took a hand and demanded a slice of territory for every dead missionary, the Chinese wrath has been growing. The German chancellor, Bulow, retorts that it was at the request of the Catholic bishop that Germans assumed the protectorate of Catholics in China, and that it was the murder of Catholic priests that induced Germany to seize territory. How much are both Germany and the Catholic priests at fault?
