DON'T BE A MULE.

THE mule is an animal that has many admirable points. His endurance is proverbial, his strength is remarkable, and his patience worthy of a song. But he is stubborn. Behind this consummate fault, his many virtues are hidden.
Don't be a mule. You are apt to become a liar. Even if wrong, you think it will not do to go back on what you have said. Don't set your ears back, and refuse a good position that you have longed for all your life because the one who offers it will not concede some little matter. Don't brace yourself to resist all efforts to push you ahead. Be firm, but don't be obstinate. Don't worship yourself. Don't kick at the least little thing that goes wrong. That's the mule in you. If you must be a mule, pull. That's what he is good for.—Anon.
